New Logo - up for grabs!

Hello world!

I just created a logo that I was going to use for a new website. But I decided against creating a new website... instead I am going to try to organize my blog (here) a little more so that everything can be in one place. So this logo is inspired by something called phulkari. If someone would like this logo please contribute $1 (contact me for PayPal information).
Also, if you would like this adjusted in colors or shapes do let me know before making the purchase.

Senior Art Exhibition/Portfolio

Hello all,

I was able to take some nice pictures of the exhibition and the finished works while they were on display. Instead of uploading all of the images on here again, I am instead going to provide a link to my Facebook page for you to visit.
The entire portfolio can be seen in the album titled Senior Exhibition  A Sensory Trip to India - 2014. And you can also view other detailed images along with in progress snapshots of the entire portfolio in an album titled In Progress - Senior Exhibition.

I hope you are able to visit (and maybe even like?) the page to see not just my portfolio but all of the art work I have done. I am going to be uploading previous works (including sketches) on there along with any new works that I create in the future.

Portfolio Update #4

This portfolio update is not going to include the final versions of the candles as they are going to be added to the Diwali Display page instead. What I am going to post is a little different.

 I would like to start off with these 5 images of the Diwali Display model that I created using cardboard, yarn, and puffy paint (the portrait sketches were done with Rangila Paints). The images here do not include what the final model looks like (I shall post that separately on the Diwali Display page instead)...so pretend that the right (empty) wall looks the same as the left. The colors shown here are not going to be the same on the final display but they are coded for other things.
For those who are curious the color coding means: light green: white flower garland, light pink: light yellow flower garland, dark pink (magenta-ish): orange flower garlands, blue (yarn): fabric, green puffy paint: LED lights (Christmas lights), and medium green yarn: LED lights of different style.

Keep in mind that the table is 3.5 feet in diameter... the entire display is going to be (hopefully) set up to allow walking room of about 3 feet. So the total dimensions being 9.5 by 9.5 feet (not including the space the actual "walls" of the display are going to take).

The next part of the update includes something that I created using oven bake clay and all sorts of paint mediums...and embellishments. This is my version of Sanjhi Devi (a folk art for girls in northern India). I suggest that you read this article for some clarifications: link.

This first image shows what my clay pieces for the tribute look like after being baked in the oven. I laid them down on the canvas to see if it was a good size or not. And then came the painting...

 

The left image shows the disks (star) pieces as well as part of the Devi's clothes. Along with her shoes, the moon, and the sun....and two of the sweets I made for the Diwali Display. The right image shows more disks as well as sweets...and birds.

 

The canvas was painted with acrylic paint that I mixed in modeling paste...with a touch of beads mixed into the paint for the top part (as seen in the image on the left) along with the silver beading 3D paint. The crackling was a surprise that I got after the canvas dried...I was not expecting for that to happen but hey it looks more like a mud wall now. Below are two different shots of the completed work...along with some close ups.

At the end of this post I am going to include a full list of the materials I used.

Some things I found interesting about Sanjhi Devi:

-Some women spend months (from 2 to even 6) preparing the pieces needed to complete this tribute... but it only gets displayed for 9 nights and then has to be taken down and burnt in a kettle that is sent floating on a pond. I just find the preparation versus display time difference very fascinating. 

-All Sanjhi Devi's have some similar parts but usually everyone makes a different one... the artist in everyone comes out at this time (mainly women and girls). The abstraction/simplified shapes are common for obvious reasons.

Craft Update #7

For this craft update I am going to introduce two different types of medium that I have had the chance of working with. As I explained in an earlier post, I am taking a Studio Art class on West African Culture that is letting me experience some interesting and new medias.

 These three are batik on 100% cotton fabric using melted wax as a resist.

 
This next part is an experimental/practice piece for a kente cloth. I learned the basics of weaving a kente cloth and some different types of pattern making to prepare for the final piece. Which is a kente made of 5 strips (each 8 inches tall).

Art update #3

There has been no posts for a while as I have been busy juggling classes, work, and my art portfolio. Not to fear though, as I am documenting the completion date of everything along with pictures so that I may upload them here eventually.

I was recently feeling a need to create some mixed media art. The first attempt was going to be of a baby elephant but unfortunately was not going in the right direction....so I completely scratched it off. I then created a small flower painting and for my third attempt I just went over the elephant one and created a second flower painting.... wow, super wordy.

 

 

This is my fist completed mixed media art. I would like to clear up something: in my opinion mixed media art is usually something that pops out... it has some 3D quality to it. Whereas mixed media painting is just a 2D work that involves multiple types of paints. Although this painting is not as "3D" as I would like for it to be, I would still consider it a mixed media artwork as it has some 3D objects (buttons, shells, etc.). 

This is part of the "Expressive Flower Series" and I am actually thinking about exhibiting my Expressive Flower Series during this coming summer. It all depends on whether or not I am able to complete an artist statement for just this series on time or not...
