November 15: Center tray completed 100% with sweets completed 100%.

November 14: The flowers needed for the table are 100% completed as well. The table now is missing only a few more elements before it is complete.

November 11: Portrait 2 (Gujrat) is sketched completely and the watercolor paper is fully prepared. The main colors for the portrait are picked out and laid down...

October 23: Draft of the first henna table is complete 100%. Ideas for the Diwali Display are finalized and the making of the center tray begins. The 3 cultures that I want to create portraits for are finalized: Punjab, Gujrat, and Ragistan. Ideas for color schemes to be used across all three portraits are being brainstormed at this point on...

October 10-20: Fully developed ideas for the display are now being drafted onto paper. By now I have come to terms with some of the main elements that I want to include in the display. These elements were: (1) marigolds or some sort of orange flowers that could pull off being marigolds, (2) tray full of sweets in the center, (3) Diwali divas (diyas), (4) intricate henna design that left empty space on the table for the candles and the tray, and (5) portraits of 3 women to represent 3 very different cultures in India that celebrate Diwali.
This is going to lead to another discovery: the first portrait that I completed in watercolor just recently would be one of the three as this one focused on using all Punjabi type jewelry and hair and overall appearance choices. Brainstorming for the other 2 portraits begins...

Beginning of October & end of September: The hunt for the perfect round top table begins.... lasting 2 weeks and resulting in the find of: 3.5 feet diameter round table that is 2.5 feet tall, made of oak.

Summer 2013: The henna table: the ideas for the henna table are formed and implemented. Multiple types of utensils are tried and thrown out to find the perfect utensil that would allow for me to use puffy paint and create think (pencil-like) lines on the table. In the end I found a precision bottle set from the newly open Hobby Lobby in Moline, IL (thank you Hobby Lobby for the rescue). With the perfect precision bottle and puffy paint, the process to create the henna design on a small round table began. The table was roughly 2 feet tall and 1 foot in diameter.
On the side I was creating some portraits of Indian brides which would later inspire another element for the Diwali Display.
