Art & Music

I just wanted to share something with everyone....

ART + MUSIC = great art =)

I just realized how much music influences my art and the process that I go through.
Every art work I have ever made has a song behind it. I know when ever I hear a
certain song I'll remember the art work I was making while listening to that said song.

Picking at least one or even two songs to listen to while I draw really helps keep things
in memory... I do write down all of the colors that I use in pieces and what techniques
but if I listen to one song while working on a piece then it will bring back other memories
with it...like what I was eating at that time or drinking at that time. Was it a school day or
was I drawing at a different place...etc etc etc

Yea, you might be thinking that I am crazy for listening to just one song non stop for four
or more hours but am I really? No, I do not listen to the same song non stop. I have this
thing for listening to "theme music"...ever hear of that? They can be found mainly in video
games, even in movies and tv shows... Theme music does not have any words/lyrics to it.
Just musical instruments or technology. I usually listen to a custom made album on either
YouTube or on my MP3, the playlist is dominated with theme music from all kinds of sources
and backgrounds (video games, tv serials, ads, etc) and I will have the newest song I have
heard or really enjoy. I do try to keep it limited to only three songs with lyrics but I do have
my moments. >.<

How music works for me: The beat... it matches my brush/pencil strokes. The faster the
beat the faster my hand works...it becomes a rhythm of its own...I sometimes feel as if I have
no control over what my hand is drawing, or what is being created. It's in those moments that
I create my masterful "accidents" you might have heard about. Those accidents are basically
mistakes that are not intended but end up working out amazingly for my art work. Sometimes
I can reproduce the mistakes but not all the time. Yea...something interesting.

Does anyone else have those moments? Are you connected to music in this way?

  1. That's really interesting how music affects the way you draw!

I don't really use music at all in my photos - though I think I'll definitely try it. Probably having my iPod playing while I'm on a photography outing... idk

    Definitely on my to-do list!
